The Emperor’s New Clothes – again

Jordi Ruiz Cirera, a 28-year-old Spanish photographer based in London has been awarded the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2012 for his photograph of a woman from Bolivia. Cirera was presented with the £12,000 award on 5th November 2012 at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

So there you go. Don’t take any notice of anything Pete says!

  1. I think you should send him a copy of your aide-memoire, but not before he has benefited from a week or two in Lagruere. Has he signed up for the ‘Advance course? (At 12k he should be able to afford it!) Looking forward to my next session. Cheers D & J

  2. Pete,
What a c**p photo, suggest you use it as an example of how many faults you can get into one photo – despite it winning. I don’t know why people bother to write books about composition, exposure, lighting etc., in the eyes of some judges it is obviously a complete waste of time.
Keep plodding on, some of us appreciated your instruction

  3. Pete,
Just to add to the above check out “andreas gursky rhine ii” on Google and see what a $4.3m photo looks like!!

  4. Apparently she’s a Mennonite who didn’t want her photo taken (they don’t approve of it) — that’s why she has her hand over her face. So he took her photo, blasted it around the interwebs, and collected £12,000. Great!
